This weekend

So, I forgot the camera this weekend, but I went to the 11th annual folk and roots festival in lincoln square. It was pretty cool, good music, the weather was great, and we had some good guacamole and a funnel cake.

Bread and Mayonnaise

I am not sure what for, but I got a request to add bread and mayonnaise, so, here is some Bread and Mayonnaise.

Chelada

I have heard of a Michelada before, but today was the fist time I have ever seen a mass produced version in the supermarket, so I had to buy it and try it.
I'll have to say it's obviously not like a regular beer, what with the clamato juice lime and salt in it, but I like it. I have read a few reviews online of people that hate it and say you can't taste the beer at all. Well, the Mexican (presumably) drink that it is modeled after is supposed to be made with a light tasting beer, so, I guess thats how they are supposed to be.
Anyway, its like a fizzy bloody-mary, and I like bloody-marys, so I am going to give it a thumbs up!

Yumm.

Lychees?

I was excited to find Lychees in the Jewel-osco down the road from us yesterday. They taste pretty good. Not as good as in China I guess but Good nonetheless.

1st Pie that I have made in Chicago

I just finished making a strawberry-rhubarb pie. I don't like strawberry-rhubarb pies, but I like rhubarb pies. I didn't have enough rhubarb though, so I used a cup of strawberries.

Want the recipe?
Crust: I used Grandma's secret pie crust recipe 2 cups of flour, then half this, and half that, and a pinch of this; mix, then divide in two; then roll'em out and put in a pie pan with filling in between them (substitute any pie crust recipe here (or frozen crust :X )).

For the filling : 3 cups rhubarb 1 cup strawberries 1 cup sugar (more or less) 5 tblsp flour. toss together.

Bake 10 min at 450 and 45 min at 350 or so, depending on your oven. The one here is junk, so i ended up baking for like 1 1/2 hour.

The best part is that I baked it in a pan that my lunch came in; it was from la Pinata in Kalamazoo!

yum.

White Castle

Amy wanted a whitecastle cheeseburger and I wanted to go for a walk. So, we walked to whitecastle. Which was only like 2 or so miles away, but we missed a turn, and it ended up being more like 4 miles :)

Here is some of the white castle trash we saw on the way... It was kindof like following a bread crumb trail, the more white castle boxes n trash on the ground the closer we thought we were.

We found more and more, and, sure enough, we found it!

Yumm.

Amy likes funnel cakes.

Amy and I went to Navy Pier the other day to get some funnel cake.

I don't know that I have ever had funnel cake before, I think I always get Elephant ears instead. I think funnel cakes are a better deal though, if they are the same price ( @ Navy Pier they are both $6.00). It seems like there is just more dough there. I dunno...

They taste good though, I ate some....

Hot Doug's Dogs

So, Amy and I went to Hot Doug's Dogs here in Chicago, and here is a photo of the place...

Nice line.....

After 45 minutes in line we found out they don't take credit cards.... So, I only got a hot dog and some fries 'cause we didn't have that much cash on us.

The dog was pretty good, the duck fat fries were ok, but beware, they only take cash, and there is no indication of this until you get up to the counter to order. I would have stopped at an ATM so I could have tried something other than "the dog," maybe the pheasant, or duck sausage if I would have known...

o well, I still enjoyed it, maybe I'll try it again sometime (and be sure to bring cash...)

Hey, internet. hooray.

Hey we finally have internet in Chicago. Hooray.

I think it is time....

Mike Elgan over at the raw feed asks if it is time to globalize time. I say time to globalize time has long passed. I really don't care what the number is for what time it is, as long as we are all on the same time, I don't care if I eat dinner at "6am" or "6pm." I think we should all operate off of gmt or zulu :)

What do you think?

Pumpernickel Bread

I made some pumpernickel bread. Here is a picture of it:

Here is the recipe at tastyplanner.com. I actually found the recipe at allrecipes.com, and then added it to my recipes at tastyplanner.
The bread turned out pretty good, although a little too sweet for me, I think next time I will try more rye flour, no cornmeal and more molasses.

Get recipes, plan meals, and make a list, in one spot!

A little while ago I posted a link to the ultimate grocery list, which was cool. But now, I found tastyplanner.com! Awesome! There are a whole bunch of recipes, and a weekly meal planner. After you plan your meal for the week, it makes a grocery list for you based on the recipes you chose! Sweeeeet.....

About Tasty Planner from the website:

"Tasty Planner can help you create your grocery lists by automatically generating them from the recipes you've chosen." "You may add as many additional weeks as you'd like, as well as manually enter items you would like on the list."

Store your files on your friend's computer: Zoogmo.com

So, this looks kindof cool: Zoogmo.com. It basically lets you back up your files on a friend's computer. I am not sure if I am in to the whole storage of files online thing, but it's interesting :)
I wonder how well viruses are protected against, the site says "Since all files are encrypted prior to transmission, any kind of file that is prone to a viral infection is rendered useless. Even if a backup partner's system is infected, logically the infection shouldn't be able to spread to partners’ files. It is, however, highly recommended that all partners install and run anti-virus software." ~hmmmmm....

But its cool that Chuck is only thing that i have ever seen not blend in a blendtec blender.

EEEpc Vs Nokia n800 boot time

So, I am sitting in the library today in between classes and I decide that it is time to have a race between the n800 and my Asus EEEpc for the fastest boot time. There was no contest, I pressed and held the power button for the n800 and waited till it lit up, AND THEN pressed the power button on the EEEpc, giving the n800 a slight advantage. To no avail the EEE pc boots so fast I was able to type in my password and log in before the n800 had fully booted. I counted about 8 seconds after I logged in on my eeepc before the n800 was ready to go.

What does all this mean ? well, I guess just that the EEEpc boots a heck-ton faster than the n800.

wheeeeeee.
